Do you have questions about sending an international package?
Please take a look at our FAQs. You’ll surely find the answers you’re looking for.
How do I calculate the shipping costs for my international shipment?
The shipping costs for international packages or pallets depend on various factors such as weight, dimensions, destination, frequency of shipments, etc. Based on these factors, we always calculate a customized rate. Request your personal quote now.
How large and heavy can my international package shipment be?
For packages to consumers, these are the standard dimensions and weights:
- Maximum dimensions: L 120 x W 60 x H 60 cm
- Maximum weight: 31.5 kg
We also take into account the volume and girth of the package.
For delivery via DHL ServicePoints and Lockers, smaller sizes and weights may apply. For home delivery, larger sizes are possible under certain conditions. Discover all the specifications for international shipments.
Why do I need dimensions to calculate my shipping rate?
Your shipment will be weighed in two ways: the actual weight in kilograms and the volumetric weight, which is calculated based on the dimensions of your package (L x W x H in cm / 4,000).
The higher of the two determines the rate for your shipment. For shipping a large box of feathers, we look at the volumetric weight. A small box of bolts and nuts? Then we take the actual weight in kilograms.
Are there any additional costs to the shipping rate, such as import duties and VAT?
That depends on the terms of trade or incoterms agreed upon between you as the seller and the buyer abroad. Read more about the agreements in international trade and incoterms.
Do I need to include a customs invoice with my shipment?
When sending shipments to countries outside the European Union (e.g. Switzerland or Norway), you must enclose a pro forma invoice or a commercial invoice which are then used to carry out a customs clearance in the country of destination.
Can I also import a shipment from abroad via DHL eCommerce?
Importing a shipment is only possible within the Benelux. From other European countries, you can receive returns from consumers, but not actual import shipments.
What goods am I not allowed to ship with DHL?
You can send many things, but not everything. For safety reasons, we do not ship dangerous substances, products of extremely high value, fertilizers, etc. Check the full list of prohibited goods.
How long will my parcel take to reach its destination?
Delivery time depends on the destination. You parcel will be delivered the next workday within the Benelux. Delivery times differ for shipments to European countries outside of the Benelux. You can view the complete list of transit times here.
Can I insure my shipment?
We handle every shipment with the utmost care. At the same time, we understand that your valuable packages require extra assurance. You can easily take out transport insurance with DHL eCommerce at an attractive premium. Read all about it.
