On January 1, 2025, a new Postal Law will go into effect in Germany with modified obligations for heavy packages. According to the new postal law, parcels that weigh more than 10 kilograms or more than 20 kilograms must be labeled as such. At DHL eCommerce Benelux, we have chosen to implement this measure not only for Germany, but for all destinations, domestic and international, so that your and our employees are better prepared to handle heavy packages.
If you are using My DHL Portal, the label-API or plug-ins, DHL eCommerce will take care of adding the correct weight icons to the label. The sender is responsible for entering the correct weight or selecting the correct weight category when preparing the shipping labels.
Are you using your own software to create shipping labels? If so, please provide your labels with the appropriate icons by January 1, 2025 at the latest. Our experts can help you with this.
- The icon for your labels on packages between 10-20 kg can be found here.
- The icon for your labels on packages over 20 kg can be found here.
Failure to enter the correct weight or choose the correct weight category may affect our services and result in delays or additional surcharges for destination Germany. This also applies if you do not adjust your custom labels.
If you have a question about shipping heavy packages, please get in touch with your DHL contact person.
